The Society for American Music
maintains three regular publications. Our peer-reviewed publication
is American Music,
a quarterly journal, published for the Society by the University
of Illinois Press. The Bulletin of the
Society for American Music is
published three times yearly to provide a timely and informal means
by which members communicate with each other. The annual Membership
Directory and Handbook provides a list of members, their
addresses, telephone numbers, and affiliations. An indexed annotation
of current topics or projects of each member gives a useful means
of contact for those with shared interests. Also included in this
publication are the Society's Bylaws, as well as listings of honorees
and award winners.

American Music is an internationally
renowned, refereed, scholarly journal. Published quarterly by the
Society for American Music and the University of Illinois Press,
and edited by Ellie M. Hisama, it is devoted to all aspects of American
music and music in America.
Recent issues have included articles on topics as
diverse as Aaron Copland, World Music in Television Ads, and early
recordings of the Fisk Jubilee Singers; among forthcoming articles
are discussions of Henry Cowell and modern dance, Abel Meeropol
(a.k.a. Lewis Allan), jazz outside the marketplace, and New York
Chinatown's opera theatres.
The journal also includes scholarly reviews of books,
music, recordings, and other media relevant to its central mission.
