The Bulletin is the triannual online newsletter of the Society for American Music, appearing each Winter, Spring, and Fall. The Bulletin communicates news and ideas among SAM members, and represents our organization’s work to the wider community. Issues contain feature articles, columns, book reviews, media reviews, information on annual SAM conferences, society business, and news of our members’ achievements.

Call for Feature Articles
The Bulletin editorial board invites members to submit essays and opinion pieces on current issues in American music (broadly conceived) and music scholarship, and essays marking anniversaries of historical events. Other desired items include reports on concerts and conferences of interest to our membership, transcriptions of interviews with prominent persons in American musical life, and illustrated features that lend themselves well to our online platform. Suggested length: 800-2000 words. Contact the General Editor if you have an idea for a feature article.
Call for Book and Media Reviews
The Bulletin seeks reviewers for recent books on American music. We are especially committed to publishing reviews by graduate students and early career scholars. If you lead a graduate course and ask your students to review books, the Bulletin can help you transform this exercise into an authentic publishing opportunity through our mentored book review process. Interested authors or faculty mentors should contact the Bulletin Book Reviews Editor for more information and a list of currently available titles.
In 2016, the Bulletin established a regular media reviews feature. Please contact the Media Reviews Editor if you are interested in reviewing a database, online resource, or recent recording.
Call for Bulletin Board News
The Bulletin Board prints news of our members’ scholarly, creative, and professional activities. Please send brief news items (suggested length: 50-200 words) describing your publications, performances, fellowships, awards, and other achievements. We also welcome calls for papers and announcements of upcoming conferences and meetings. Include links. Any images should be sent as JPEG files with accompanying captions. Send your news to the General Editor.
