- IRA
- Eligible donors (age 70+) may make a Qualified Charitable Distribution directly from an IRA custodian to SAM. These gifts must be made payable directly to the Society for American Music (Tax ID: 51-0172617). If you choose this option, please complete this form.
- Matching Gifts
- Many employers offer matching gift programs for employees, retirees, and sometimes board members. Please check with your employer to see whether your gift to SAM is eligible.
- Donor-Advised Funds
- A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a simple, tax-efficient way of supporting SAM. If you have established a fund through a community foundation, financial institution, or other sponsoring organization, you may recommend a grant to SAM directly from your account. Please use the following information: Society for American Music, Tax ID/EIN: [51-0172617], [P.O. Box 20146, Louisville, KY, 40250].
- Publicly Traded Securities
- SAM accepts gifts of publicly traded securities, including stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Please contact SAM before initiating a transfer so we can provide instructions and properly identify your gift.
- Planned Gifts – Bequests, charitable remainder trusts, estate
- A charitable bequest in your will establishes your legacy and makes a lasting gift to the Society for American Music. You can add such a bequest to an existing will or draft a new one. Your bequest can pledge a gift of a dollar amount, specific property, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after distributions to other beneficiaries.
- To assist you or your counsel in drafting testamentary language, we offer the following samples:
- “I hereby give and bequeath [dollar amount, name of asset, or percentage of estate] to the Society for American Music (Tax ID: 51-0172617), a nonprofit corporation operating from [address], for its general purposes.”
- “I hereby give and bequeath all [or _%] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to the Society for American Music (Tax ID: 51-0172617), a nonprofit corporation operating from [address], for its general purposes.”
- Life Insurance
- A gift of life insurance is one of the simplest ways to make a significant contribution to the Society for American Music. You can designate the Society as the primary or secondary beneficiary of either all or some percentage of the proceeds from the policy, or you can transfer ownership of the policy to the Society, even if you are continuing to make payments.
- Informing the Society of Your Intended Gift and Estate Plans
- We ask that you inform the Society of your intention to make a gift by completing the Declaration of Intent Form (see below) or by contacting the Society executive director or President. The Society recommends that you consult with your tax adviser or financial planning professional to determine which kind of planned giving vehicle works best for you. Members of the Society are happy to discuss your plans as well.
